Celestial Ball Dress Code

The Celestial Ball is a formal occasion and whether you decide to come as Princess Peach or a Star Fleet admiral, you must dress in a manner befitting the occasion.

Please note that formal attire is required for this event. Those without proper attire will be turned away at the door. Below are some helpful guidelines, if you any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask us at ausaball@animeusa.org

No T-shirts, jeans, sneakers, flip-flops, flannel, or other casual attire will be permitted. Clothing should neither too tight nor too short. Skirts should be knee length and in general at least half of your body must be covered in fabric. Men should have their chests covered, and bare midriffs are not allowed.

Footwear

The Celestial ball is a formal dancing event. Please keep this in mind when choosing your footwear. No shoes with treads will be allowed; this includes all sneakers and most boots. Flip flops and sandals are not appropriate, while male dress shoes, dressy flats, and heels are good choices.

Formal Western Attire

Female: Those dressing in female formal wear (regardless of their own gender) should wear at least semi-formal level clothing. This includes prom dresses, gowns, cocktail dresses, and dressy separates. Individuals should avoid non-formal fabrics such as flannel, denim, vinyl and mylar.

Male: Suits and tuxedos are highly encouraged but not required. Individuals donning formal male attire should wear a minimum of a button down shirt, slacks, and tie.

Formal Eastern Attire

Those wearing formal attire from Japan or other eastern countries should be clothed neatly and in full attire. For example, a kimono jacket over jeans will not be considered formal. Those donning Japanese footwear may chose to wear zori or geta but geta are not recommended as they are very difficult to dance in.

Formal Cosplay Attire

Costumes are not required at this event but cosplayers are certainly welcome. Cosplay outfits should resemble formal wear of the non-costume variety. For example: long gowns, formal military attire, etc. Be creative and feel free to add a formal flare to your favorite character; think "If s/he came to the ball, what would they wear?" For a very good formal cosplay reference please go here. School uniforms, armor, chains, and excessive belts are all considered informal. Large props, wings, and weapons will not be allowed in the event as they will be an impediment on the dance floor and may be broken or harm others. You will be asked to remove anything that impairs your field of vision or range of motion.
